"Having just had an appalling experience with my handicapped daughter going to a nursing home after suffering a stroke, I was so happy to read that you were starting a website to evaluate nursing homes and more. My daughter lives in a group home, and after her stay in the hospital we started searching for a rehab facility for her. After being refused at several homes claiming they could not care for her, we settled on the first one that said yes. It was a disaster. I am in contact with Ohio State Department of Health concerning this facility. I have addressed my concern with the lack of knowledge that the group home possessed to make educated recommendations for their clients when situations like my daughter’s present themselves. I believe that they would be interested in learning about CareSpotlight. I applaud you for starting this service and would be willing to help in any way possible."

“As a pediatric hospice social worker working with children and young adults with life limiting conditions, a site like this would not only be helpful to me, but also to my patient population.
To have such a site would be invaluable in providing access to supports and resources that may be of help to families during such critical times.”
-Michelle M., Pediatric Social Worker, Hospice Of the Western Reserve, Cleveland, Ohio
"As a clinical social worker it astounds me that I can find online reviews for practically anything--mattresses, hotels, household goods. Yet, when a community mental health person or family member attempts to find quality information regarding care at a residential living facility or group home, there are few online resources. Finding safe, caring and good residential care options for the mentally ill is one of the most challenging aspects for community mental health workers. Case managers rely largely on word of mouth. This tool would prove to be invaluable to family, social workers, and ultimately the person who is going to live there."

“My 70 year old mother slipped getting out of the car and broke her ankle. I honestly had no idea where to go to buy her the things that she needed now that she was immobile and in need of assistance. I went to our local pharmacy where I had to literally wipe the dust off of the box for the walker. I was left with a very hopeless feeling and then had to reach out to friends to find out where to get the "best" of the most basic necessities (a scooter, a walker, and a raised toilet seat) and even the yellow pages for a nurse to come to the house. I wanted that site to exist and it just didn’t.

"Valuable idea. An online resource from which you could ask for direction and advice, names and numbers? Even in the middle of the night when you finally have a little time or energy to do some research, without having to talk to someone directly? That would help a lot of people who already have a long list of critical things to do."

"I had two surgeries last year that required recovery in a rehab facility. My doctor recommended a few places but didn't have much to say about these facilities, nor had he ever been to them. I had no clue where to go and it was a big decision to make. It would have been wonderful to have a site like CareSpotlight up and running to assist me in this process and connect with others experiencing similar situations."
-Vonnie Beamer, North Olmsted, Ohio
"I have been an Occupational Therapist for eighteen years working in numerous areas across the continuum of care. In all of that time, I never had a resource I could direct patients and their families to which would help them make the important decisions for the next level of care. And now, having cared for two aging parents and a special needs brother, I cannot emphasize how valuable CareSpotlight is - even if you are in the rehabilitation community!"
