ADVOCACY

We want to highlight current situations that are affecting some of our most vulnerable citizens  - the elderly, and individuals of all ages living with disabilities, serious illness and injuries.

While this level of care might vary from person to person; the laws, regulations and decisions can affect everyone in need and are significant. Individuals and families are currently fighting painful and life-altering battles every day. And, sometimes an unexpected situation can result in awareness, action and the opportunity to come together and make a big difference.

We are focusing our efforts to start on:

1. Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities:
Home & Residential Care; Supported Employment

2. Elderly, Ill, Seriously Injured Individuals:
Receiving Care in a Nursing Home/Rehab Facility

An Update: October 2016:

We are working diligently to bring you a comprehensive directory with review capability!

In the meantime, we are collecting reviews, provider listings and more that will be published when the directory goes live. Do you have a review to share? A provider that you want to ensure is listed? A personal story to share? A resource to add? A product to promote that could be beneficial to our users? An event to promote? An issue that you need support advocating for/create more awareness?

See the action buttons on this page below or on the navigation bar at the top of the page under the tab "Take Action" to find your appropriate form or email us the information. Let us know if you have any questions:
[email protected] or: 216-659-5519.

We are also looking to connect with potential website sponsors and advertisers. Please click here for for more information.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT:
RESOURCE OF THE WEEK
Picture

"In 2012 we met at Harvard and recognized our shared dedication to helping families of children with disabilities gain better access to services and supports. We knew disability information was available, but that much of it was too general or inaccessible for families who needed it. To solve this problem, we began collaborating on technology to empower families. In 2013, we launched Exceptional Lives."
- Founders

This website provides free guides, and each guide gives parents of children with disabilities a step-by-step walkthrough of the topic, featuring:
  • Key information from expert sources written in plain, easy to read wording
  • A personalized checklist of action items, based on your answers in the Guide
  • Saved progress so you can come back to your Guide at any time, on any device

Spotlight Products:

Mobility
including our recommendations for canes, crutches, walkers, and wheelchairs.

Telephones & Accessories
including our recommendations for phones for seniors and other individuals living with dementia, Alzheimer's, vision/hearing impairments, and intellectual & developmental disabilities.

Medical Alert Systems

including 3 different types of systems - from "nurse/caregiver alerts", to a variety of emergency systems. Some are to be used mainly in the home, and others have GPS and are equipped with nationwide coverage.

We have done the research to help make these difficult decisions a little easier!

We will continue to post updates as more products and categories are added to our "Spotlight Products" section.

Thank you to all of our GoFundMe Campaign supporters!
We have raised $6,774 and the campaign is still open. All support - whether a financial contribution or spreading the word, is so very appreciated! We are working hard to deliver to you a thorough, thoughtful and objective care and service provider review platform very soon.
